A page-turner that deftly juggles science and science fiction, ancient myth and modern life, Chinese and Maori cultures and espionage and geopolitics in a thriller package set, for once, in the Pacific. The women are all kick-ass and sharp as tacks; the men, not so much. It’s not a deep read, but it’s a good read, with easy-to-visualize plot-driven action. And there’s a sequel to look forward to. Great holiday reading.
